uSwitch

uSwitch is one of the UK's leading price comparison and switching websites. Users can compare a range of household bills against alternative providers and switch if they find a better deal.

uSwitch was launched in late 2000. It began as a gas and electricity switching service, which proved to be very popular. The UK energy market was deregulated in 1998, and uSwitch was in a position to take full advantage of that.

Since its launch, uSwitch has expanded into other markets, including: home phone, broadband, digital TV, mobile phones, credit cards, loans, water, heating cover, car insurance and current accounts.

uSwitch purchased buy.co.uk in 2001. Buy.co.uk was one of the UK's first price comparison sites. uSwitch then purchases the UK's leading local information site, UpMyStreet in 2003.

uSwitch attracted a lot of media attention in 2006 when it was bought by the American media giant The E.W. Scripps Company for £210 million.

uSwitch's price comparison calculators are present on many other leading websites, including Yahoo, Orange and Virgin Media.
