Understanding and implementing basic search engine optimisation practices can literally make or break your website or blog. Search engines can provide a constant stream of visitors. But if you do not follow best practices, the search engines will not love you and you are likely to receive very little traffic from them.
This is the first part in a series on SEO. In this part, I will discuss onsite SEO. Onsite SEO refers to the techniques that you employ on your site to optimise it for search engines.
This is the first in the series of blog roundups, where I will be reviewing some of the best posts from the blogsphere in the past week.
Google Pagerank can mean two things. It is the Pagerank on the Google toolbar and the heart of the Google search engine.
Web users can install the Google Toolbar onto their browser and this includes a Pagerank monitor. When visiting a website, the Pagerank monitor displays a score out of 10 and this indicates the importance of that webpage. This is no longer considered to be an accurate reflection of the actual importance and is more of a Google marketing tool.
At long last I have found a website that incorporates Flash without overusing it and turning off visitors.
Web Developer Johan De Silva's website is a HTML based site that embeds Flash into its home page, rather than a fully blown Flash website. I prefer this approach because search engines can not read full Flash sites, they tend to be slower than an HTML based site and are often over "flashy".

Jeremy says that the Matt Cutt's hack is also a joke, but it still down, so I'll have to take his word for it!
It appears that the blogs of Matt Cutt's and Jeremy Schoemaker (Shoemoney.com) have been hacked and brought down.
Matt Cutt's blog proudly states: "This site have been hacked by Dark SEO Team". It seems to be a stunt to make a point about Google's inabilty to filter duplicate content properly and relate it back to its source.
A tool to check where a site/page ranks in Google for a particular keyword has been added under the Tools section. Tools can be found on the top navigation bar. More useful search engine optimisation tools will be added in the near future.
Love them or hate them, the blogsphere is a massive part of the web and is of increasing importance. Initially conceived as a way for individuals to easily maintain an online personal diary, blogs have become a powerful business instrument.
