The 80/20 rule is an important one in business. Also know as the Pareto principle, the 80/20 rule states that 80% of your sales will come from 20% of your customers.

This rule can be applied to any manor of businesses. In the affiliate marketing world, 80% of your profit might come from 20% of your merchants, or 20% of your websites. In freelance web development, 80% of your revenue might come from 20% of your clients.

Working to a deadline can make you work more effectively and get the job done a lot quicker. But does this hold true for web programming? If you are a journalist, you will be used to deadlines. It is possible to write a story quickly with the added pressure of a deadline. Similarly, tasks like mowing the law or vacuuming the house can be done quickly if you set yourself a deadline. But I have found with web programming, a tight deadline can be very counter-productive.

For some, being organised comes naturally. These people can add "well organised" to their CV's. These are the lucky ones, because for most of us, being organised is a skill that we must learn. I am one of those people that needs to work at being organised. Luckily there are many free tools that we can use that help tremendously in our quest to be organised.
