I was always of the opinion that when people who use Wordpress discover Drupal, they eventually switch to Drupal. This is because I feel that Drupal is far more powerful and flexible than Wordpress.
However, I have noticed that a small trends seems to be beginning with people switching from Drupal to Wordpress.
As recessionary fear and paranoia grips businesses in the USA and UK, Google does what Google does best, defies the market and paves its own way. Revenue has soared 42% in the first 3 months of this year from $3.66bn to $5.19bn. Profit has risen to $1.31 million, which is 30% higher than the first quarter of 2007.
The 80/20 rule is an important one in business. Also know as the Pareto principle, the 80/20 rule states that 80% of your sales will come from 20% of your customers.
This rule can be applied to any manor of businesses. In the affiliate marketing world, 80% of your profit might come from 20% of your merchants, or 20% of your websites. In freelance web development, 80% of your revenue might come from 20% of your clients.
One of the most annoying things in the world is trying to create a screen grab of a web page when the page does not fit on the visible screen. It involves hitting "Print Screen", pasting into a graphics programme, and then scrolling down to grab the lower part of the page, and then joining the 2 together. Do that a few times and you will soon get sick of it!
Upgrading to a new version of Drupal puts the fear of god into a lot of people. However, it does not need to be scary or time consuming. Because Drupal is highly modular, upgrading is a fairly painless exercise. Furthermore, it is necessary to maintain the latest version of your Drupal branch to ensure that you have the latest security patches.
I have always been a fan of the BBC website. It is extremely effective at organising and presenting vast quantities of information. When I visited the BBC homepage last week, I thought I must have mis-typed the URL. It was not the usual BBC website that I know and love.
I thought it was about time I redesigned this site, after sporting a contributed Drupal theme for far too long. I built the new theme from scratch. I was keen to keep the site simple, with minimal colour and a strong head section. It is a CSS only layout, with the left navigation bar coming after the main content in the HTML, which is good SEO practice.
