Drupal is a complex system. As such, there are a lot of admin and config options in the admin menu. Even when you know what you are doing, navigating it can be time consuming.

But time is money and we’d all like to get our work done faster.

The ‘Coffee’ module promises to speed up access to admin system. With one keyboard short cut, a dialog will popup where you can filter for admin links. Simply start typing the option you want and it will autocomplete. Hit enter and you’ll go straight to it.

Coffee is very similar to Alfred on Mac. If you have ever used that you’ll know what a time saver it is.

Using coffee

You can invoke the coffee dialog with the shortcut key:

  • Mac: alt + D
  • Opera: alt + shift + D
  • Windows IE: alt + ctrl + D

Then start to type the task you want to perform, and Coffee with autocomplete.

Coffee is one of those tools that initially doesn’t seem like it will save much time or be of any benefit. But the more you use it, the more you realise how helpful it really is. So I encourage you to check it out and try it for at last a few days!
